Luggage Math for Airport Transfer: Minivan or Sedan?

"We have 3 adults + 1 child + 4 suitcases + a stroller, will a sedan be enough?" This question reaches our operators at least 20 times a day. In airport transfers, price matters — but so does another question: will your chosen vehicle actually fit your bags? In this guide we detail every vehicle's capacity, family scenarios, and extras like a roof box.

Why this article matters

Most passengers pick "the sedan because it is cheaper" — then panic when the driver cannot fit the luggage at the airport. This is a frequent scene with 23 kg suitcases. Choosing the right vehicle from the start makes the transfer smoother and protects your wallet.

Vehicle types and luggage capacity

Sedan (Passat, E-Class, Skoda Superb)

• Passengers: 3 people (back seat is not comfortable for 3 adults; 2 adults + 1 child recommended)
• Large suitcase (23 kg, 70 cm): 3 pieces
• Hand bag / backpack: 3 pieces (at passengers' feet)
• Folding baby stroller: one, takes half the boot — drops suitcase count to 2

Mercedes Vito 7+1 (Minivan)

Common family scenarios

Scenario 1: 2 adults + 2 children (0-7 years) + 3 suitcases + stroller

Recommendation: The sedan is borderline — stroller + 3 suitcases fill the boot, hand bags wedge between passengers. For comfort, go with the Vito 7+1. Child and infant seats are installed free of charge.

Scenario 2: 2 adults + 4 suitcases

Recommendation: The sedan fits perfectly — 3 cases in the boot, 1 on the back seat. But if the back seat is for a passenger, switch to the Vito.

Scenario 3: 4 adults + 4 suitcases + 2 backpacks

Recommendation: The sedan is not enough (4 passengers make the sedan cramped). The Vito 7+1 is the right choice. Hand bags are free inside.

Scenario 4: 6 adults + 6 suitcases + golf sets

Recommendation: The Vito 7+1 swallows the bags, but golf bags are a problem. We recommend a Sprinter or Vito + roof box combo.

Recommendation: Sedan won't work. Vito 7+1 is ideal; infant seat is free, please notify for the cot in advance.

Roof box option

We have a roof box model that fits on the Vito:

• Extra capacity: 380 litres (3 extra large suitcases)
• Extra fee: €15 one way
• Lock: Spare key with driver; waterproof
• When needed: A full 7-person family + sports gear (bike bag, golf set, skis)

Write "Extra equipment" in the booking note and the roof box will be installed. You can also send a last-minute WhatsApp — at least 2 hours in advance.

Baby and child seats

• Infant seat (0–12 months): Rear-facing, ISOFIX, free
• Toddler seat (1–4 years): Forward-facing, integrated belt, free
• Booster seat (4–12 years): Cushion type, free

Under Turkish traffic law, children under 12 and below 135 cm must travel in a child seat. That is why we ask for age/height during booking — so the correct seat arrives pre-installed.

Some families prefer to bring their own seat (checked on the plane). In that case we can install it via ISOFIX in our vehicle; the driver will assist.

Wheelchair / special equipment

• Folding wheelchair: Fits in sedan boot (counts as one suitcase). No problem in Vito.
• Electric mobility scooter: Requires Sprinter or a vehicle with a ramp — please notify 48 hours in advance.
• Oxygen cylinder: Permitted in our vehicles; a doctor's note is requested (you usually have one for the flight).

Pet transfer

Cat or dog in a carrier fits fine in standard sedan/Vito. For an uncaged dog, Vito or Sprinter only. No extra charge; we also provide a water bowl after the flight.

• "My 23 kg suitcase looks small": In reality 70x50x30 cm; 3 hardly fit in the boot
• "We also have a cardboard box": If irregular, it wastes space. Please share a photo in advance.
• "My child is 4 but small, no seat needed": By law under 135 cm requires a seat; insurance checks this.
• "The cheapest is the sedan": If your luggage doesn't fit, calling an extra car at the airport doubles the cost.
