Ephesus Night Museum 2026 — What It Is and How to Get There from Kusadasi
Efes Antik Kenti Gece Müzeciliği launched on 3 June 2026. Everything you need to know: schedule, what to see, tickets, and the easiest private transfer from Kusadasi.
Ephesus after dark is a completely different place. Since 3 June 2026, the Turkish Ministry of Culture has been running a Gece Müzeciliği (Night Museum) programme at Efes Antik Kenti every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday — 19:00 entry until 23:00. The programme runs until 1 October 2026.
What happens at the Night Museum?
The site stays open under dramatic floodlighting, but the real draw is the projection-mapping show on the facade of the Library of Celsus. One of the most photographed buildings in the ancient world transforms into a canvas for light and moving imagery after dark. The show runs continuously throughout the evening so you can watch it as many times as you like during your visit.
Beyond the Library, the entire site is lit:
- Curetes Street — the main colonnaded avenue glows amber
- The Great Theatre — capacity 25,000, now framed in light
- Domitian Temple — the first imperial cult temple in Ephesus
- Terraced Houses — the recently excavated multi-storey residences (separate ticket during the day; included in the night ticket)
You also share the site with far fewer people than in peak daytime hours — a meaningful advantage in summer when day crowds are substantial.
Schedule (2026)
| Day | Entry opens | Must vacate | |-----|-------------|-------------| | Wednesday | 19:00 | 23:00 | | Thursday | 19:00 | 23:00 | | Friday | 19:00 | 23:00 | | Saturday | 19:00 | 23:00 |
Programme runs: 3 June 2026 – 1 October 2026
Tickets
Entry is sold via the Turkish Ministry of Culture's ticketing portal (muze.gov.tr). The 2026 price is approximately €40 per person (or the TL equivalent). Online purchase is strongly recommended — walk-in capacity is limited and popular nights sell out. You cannot purchase tickets through us; the transfer covers transport only.
Getting there from Kusadasi
Ephesus is approximately 30 km from Kusadasi city centre — about 30–35 minutes by car. In the evening the road is quiet, so timing is predictable.
Private transfer (recommended)
A private transfer at €100 round trip (up to 7 passengers) is the most convenient option. We pick you up at your hotel at 18:15, arrive at the South Gate by 18:50, wait while you visit, and return you to your hotel at either 22:15 or 23:00 — whichever you prefer. You pay the driver in cash on the day (EUR, USD or TL).

By taxi
A local taxi from Kusadasi to Ephesus will cost approximately €30–50 one way, with no guaranteed return. Many taxis are unwilling to wait 3 hours without a significant surcharge. For a predictable evening out, pre-booked private transfer is much more reliable.
On foot / public transport
Public buses to Selçuk (the town next to Ephesus) stop well before 23:00. Evening service is minimal and there is no direct service to the site entrance. This option is not realistic for the night programme.
What to bring
- Tickets — download them to your phone before you leave
- Comfortable shoes — the site is large (2+ km of walking) and paving is uneven
- Light jacket — summer evenings can be breezy inside the valley, even in July
- Camera or phone — the projection show on the Library is very photogenic
- Water — there is a small kiosk inside but supply can run out on busy nights
Combining with a day visit
If you want to see Ephesus in daylight as well, it is perfectly possible to do a daytime visit (09:00–18:00) and then return for the evening programme on a different day. We offer the daytime Kusadasi to Ephesus transfer separately at different pricing.
Frequently asked
Can I buy tickets on the night? Walk-in capacity exists but is limited. On Friday and Saturday evenings especially, the programme can be fully booked. Online tickets are strongly recommended.
Is the projection show in English? The visual show has no narration — it is purely visual. Audio guides in multiple languages are sometimes available for hire at the gate; check muze.gov.tr for current availability.
Is it suitable for children? Yes — the pace is relaxed, lighting is atmospheric rather than scary, and the projection show delights children. The site involves significant walking (2+ km); comfortable footwear for children is essential.
What if it rains? The programme continues in light rain (the site has no roof). In severe weather the Ministry may cancel at short notice. Check the muze.gov.tr site or our WhatsApp on the day. If the programme is cancelled, we will reschedule your transfer at no charge.
