A few words on Pamukkale & Hierapolis

A day at Pamukkale usually splits into three parts: walking the travertines barefoot (shoes off on the calcium surface), swimming in the thermal pool, and touring Hierapolis with its museum. The small museum in the old bath building is worth a few extra minutes.

One ticket covers the terraces and Hierapolis; the antique pool charges separately inside. Karahayit, the neighbouring village, is known for red thermal water and quieter hotels.

What the drive looks like

Most of the 200 km is highway. In season the first kilometres near the coast can be slow; the highway stretch is quick.

The road out of Kusadasi centre picks up the ring road that meets the Selcuk highway and stays on divided highway for most of the 200 km. Total distance is about 200 km, covered in roughly 170 minutes without stops.
