Good to know on the day

The House of Virgin Mary sits 8 km up the mountain from the site; if you want it on the same trip, mention it at booking and the driver plans the order. The driver waits at your exit gate, so the pace inside is yours.

Terrace Houses has its own ticket inside the site and its own turnstile; if it is on your list, budget an extra half hour and a second queue. Pick your gate before you arrive: starting at the upper (Magnesia) gate means the whole visit runs downhill to the lower gate, which is the easier walk and the order most guides suggest.

Departure timing

In summer, early morning is the right call: there is little shade on the marble streets and midday heat is heavy. The 30-minute drive means you can still be back at Sealight Resort Hotel for lunch.

The site is mostly open marble; in July and August the early slot is the comfortable one, in spring the afternoon light is kind. Cruise groups thin out after lunch and the light on the Celsus Library turns warm towards closing time.
