Most of the 25 km is highway. The local part is only the beach road up to the Degirmendere junction and onto the coastal highway out of Ladies Beach; after that the driver keeps a steady line to Ephesus.

Departure timing

In summer, early morning is the right call: there is little shade on the marble streets and midday heat is heavy. Add the Terrace Houses, the Selcuk museum or the House of Virgin Mary and it becomes a half day; the driver adjusts the pickup accordingly.

Know before you go: Ephesus

The site is near Selcuk town, about 25 km from Ladies Beach. We can drop you at one gate and collect you at the other, so the walk runs one way, downhill.

Ephesus was a Roman port city of around 250,000 people. Outside the main gate, the Temple of Artemis and the Selcuk museum round out the day.

Weighing the options
